Selection for Enrollment
The total enrollment of grades 9-12 is limited by our charter. The enrollment preferences of the school are governed by state law. All students will be considered for admission without regard to disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic that is contained in the definition of hate crimes set forth in Section 422.55 of the Penal Code, including immigration status, or any other characteristic protected by law, or association with persons with any of these characteristics. Students will be selected for enrollment based on local criteria set by the Charter.
The Nuview Bridge Early College High School’s admission requirements are designed in conjunction with our partner colleges to support our early college program. Students applying for Nuview Bridge Early College High School must demonstrate a commitment to academics. In compliance with our partner colleges, the Nuview Bridge Early College High School requires a GPA higher than a 2.5 with no “F” grades in their courses to attend college classes. This requirement is a minimum and might be higher with some college programs. In addition to the above requirements Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth grade applicants cannot be credit deficient and must have a good standing record in the year prior to their enrollment at NBECHS.
NBECHS is non-sectarian in its programs, admissions policies, employment practices, and all other operations, shall not charge tuition, and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. NBECHS will reach out, recruit, and strive to enroll children of families of diverse race, culture, economic, and educational backgrounds to promote a balanced and diverse student body reflective of the district, community, and surrounding areas. NBECHS expects families to understand and support the school’s mission, vision, and educational philosophy.
If the number of applicants that meet the locally determined qualifications exceeds the number of available openings per grade level, a lottery will be held. Using a lottery as a method of selection is required by California law.
If a lottery is required, it will be used to determine who is eligible to register for the new school year and who will be placed on the wait list. The lottery process includes preferences that are granted per the Charter language and a public random drawing to be held on the first school business Friday on or after April 1st.
Admission Preferences
If the school receives a number of applications that exceeds the number of available spaces, a public random drawing will be held, with preference for available spaces given to students in the following order until capacity is reached. If available space remains after preferences are assigned, the lottery must occur for all other remaining and all other California residents that have applied by the deadline:
- Pupils currently attending NBECHS
- Pupils who reside within the boundaries of Nuview Union School District
- Siblings of graduates and pupils currently attending NBECHS
- Pupils who attend a Nuview Union School District school
- Children of permanent employees of the Nuview Union School District
In the event that a random lottery does occur then the wait list will be determined by continuing to draw names in numerical order beyond the pre-stated capacity number until every name is accounted for from the applications that were turned in by the deadline. All applications turned in after the deadline will be added to the wait list on a first come first serve basis. Preference for the waiting list will be given in the order waitlisted immediately upon an opening becoming available.

Contract of Core Values and Student/Family Expectations
There are four Core Values at NBECHS. Some of these values may initially create challenges for students new to our school. Experience has shown that these Core Values must be honored for the student to succeed in our educational process and programs. Please read each statement and sign at the bottom to verify that both parent(s)/guardian(s) and student have read the statement and understand its meaning.
Attendance
As parents/guardians and student, we understand the importance of regular and daily attendance at school. The importance of an excellent attendance record will become evident as the student moves into a college setting (in which classes are held fewer times each week, which means a single absence could mean 2-3 hours of lost instruction).
If there are custody orders and/or restraining orders in regards to this student a copy of the orders MUST be submitted to Ms. Thorpe either via email at zthorpe@nuviewusd.org or fax at (951) 602-7744.
- As parents/guardians and student, we understand that poor grades may result from poor attendance.
- As parents/guardians and student, we understand that arriving at school on time is important. Students who are tardy will be assigned a detention or Saturday School.
- As parents/guardians and students, we understand that students with excessive absences and/or tardies will be referred to the Student Attendance Review Team (SART).
Academics
As parents/guardians and student, we understand that high school and college environments require a commitment to continual improvement and a quest for excellence. We understand that future success will be measured on how well a job is completed, rather than on meeting minimal requirements. We understand that progress through the NBECHS program will be based on the student’s academic performance.
- As parents/guardians, we will work with our son/daughter to ensure that high quality work is expected. We will not accept or condone less than his/her best effort.
- As a student, I commit to doing my best work in all classes and to making an effort to meet or exceed the expectations of my instructors. I will complete my assignments on time with success and seek tutoring when necessary.
- As parents/guardians and student, we understand that if the student falls below a 2.0 GPA he/she will be placed on an academic probation contract and not be eligible for college courses until the GPA improves in high school courses.
Accountability
As parents/guardians and student, we understand that moving into a high school and college environment will require additional maturity, self-management skills, and a commitment to reaching well-planned goals.
- As parents/guardians and student, we will commit ourselves to working with our student’s counselor and/or school administration to develop a sound educational plan and to find appropriate solutions to problems that the student might encounter in the program.
- In order to promote a safe, secure and highly rigorous academic environment, NBECHS has a Student Handbook in which all students must follow the stated rules, regulations and policies. The Student Handbook is updated yearly.
Attitude
As parents/guardians and student, we realize that a positive attitude is the centerpiece in creating a successful future. Students are expected to display an attitude that is positive, professional, caring, mature, and helpful.
- As parents/guardians and student, we understand that excessive discipline issues at NBECHS will result in a behavior contract. Through the behavior contract and due process, students may be referred for expulsion from the NBECHS program under CA Education Code 48915.
