Contract of Core Values and Student/Family Expectations

There are four Core Values at NBECHS. Some of these values may initially create challenges for students new to our school. Experience has shown that these Core Values must be honored for the student to succeed in our educational process and programs. Please read each statement and sign at the bottom to verify that both parent(s)/guardian(s) and student have read the statement and understand its meaning.

Attendance

As parents/guardians and student, we understand the importance of regular and daily attendance at school. The importance of an excellent attendance record will become evident as the student moves into a college setting (in which classes are held fewer times each week, which means a single absence could mean 2-3 hours of lost instruction).

  • As parents/guardians and student, we understand that poor grades may result from poor attendance.
  • As parents/guardians and student, we understand that arriving at school on time is important. Students who are tardy will be assigned a detention or Saturday School.
  • As parents/guardians and students, we understand that students with excessive absences and/or tardies will be referred to the Student Attendance Review Team (SART).

Academics

As parents/guardians and student, we understand that high school and college environments require a commitment to continual improvement and a quest for excellence. We understand that future success will be measured on how well a job is completed, rather than on meeting minimal requirements. We understand that progress through the NBECHS program will be based on the student’s academic performance.

  • As parents/guardians, we will work with our son/daughter to ensure that high quality work is expected. We will not accept or condone less than his/her best effort.
  • As a student, I commit to doing my best work in all classes and to making an effort to meet or exceed the expectations of my instructors. I will complete my assignments on time with success and seek tutoring when necessary.
  • As parents/guardians and student, we understand that if the student falls below a 2.0 GPA he/she will be placed on an academic probation contract and not be eligible for college courses until the GPA improves in high school courses.

Accountability

As parents/guardians and student, we understand that moving into a high school and college environment will require additional maturity, self-management skills, and a commitment to reaching well-planned goals.

  • As parents/guardians and student, we will commit ourselves to working with our student’s counselor and/or school administration to develop a sound educational plan and to find appropriate solutions to problems that the student might encounter in the program.
  • In order to promote a safe, secure and highly rigorous academic environment, NBECHS has a Student Handbook in which all students must follow the stated rules, regulations and policies. The Student Handbook is updated yearly.

Attitude

As parents/guardians and student, we realize that a positive attitude is the centerpiece in creating a successful future. Students are expected to display an attitude that is positive, professional, caring, mature, and helpful.

  • As parents/guardians and student, we understand that excessive discipline issues at NBECHS will result in a behavior contract. Through the behavior contract and due process, students may be referred for expulsion from the NBECHS program under CA Education Code 48915.
